KC FUSION Player's Reach Out to Help Others
This summer our own Kansas City Wizard's along with the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) hosted an evening of summer fun for local children with disabilities. The event was held at the Wizard's training facility at Swope Park. Despite the sweltering heat there were approximately 50-60 special athletes who attended and all received Camp T-shirts at check in.
SWUSC along with NSCD offers a special program through TOP Soccer (The Out Reach Program) for player's with physical challenges during our fall and spring soccer seasons. Mark Von Elling who is the Head Coach of this program with SWUSC volunteered to assist that evening as well as KC FUSION players Lauren Reiman, Katie Brophy, Caitilin Fitzgerald and Diana Dewsbury. Mark sums things up by saying, "I know our KC FUSION players had a great experience being there and leading drills and being able to teach what they have learned to those wanting to learn." "My players walked away from the night asking me, When would be the next time they would be able to do this." "I am very proud to be allowed to help and share in something so fulfilling for others, and all that is asked of me, is a little of my time." "I look forward to our next session together."
The evening wasn't over until everyone had a popsicle and a smile on their face!
